What is Mounjaro?
Researchers began to investigate Mounjaro as a potential weight loss drug after the success of the drug semaglutide, brand name Wegovy. Wegovy opened the door for many potential weight loss drugs, including Mounjaro and retatrutide.
Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor that mimics a hormone in the body that makes you feel full. In general, GLP-1s curb your appetite and slow digestion to help you feel full for longer.
Mounjaro is a GLP-1 and a GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor agonist. The combination of GLP-1 and GIP boosts the weight loss benefits of the injections. Clinical trials showed that Mounjaro caused a 20% loss of body weight on average for people who are overweight or obese.
Mounjaro is a minimally invasive and nonsurgical procedure. It involves regular injections of the drug tirzepatide into the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Most experts recommend pairing Mounjaro with a healthy diet and exercise for the best results.

What to Expect
The first step is your free consultation.
Start your Mounjaro journey with a free consultation at Stadia Med Spa. During the consultation, your Stadia Med Spa provider meets with you to discuss your goals and expectations for the treatment.
Typical candidates have a BMI of 30 or more and want to lose weight.
Before Treatment
Before Mounjaro, let your Stadia Med Spa provider know if you are taking any medications, prescriptions, or supplements. You should also let them know you are currently taking any other measures to lose weight. Mounjaro works best when paired with a healthy diet and exercise.
During Treatment
The Mounjaro injections come in single-use pre-filled pens. You use one pen a week and inject it underneath the skin’s surface. The pens should be kept refrigerated until you use them.
The first dose will be 2.5 mg for four weeks. Then Stadia Med Spa will increase your dose to 5 mg for four weeks. You can increase the dose up to 15mg per week.
If you are comfortable doing the injections yourself, you can inject it into your stomach or thigh. But many patients aren’t comfortable injecting the dose themselves. If you prefer, you can have someone else inject Mounjaro into your thigh or the back of your arm.
Your Stadia Med Spa provider can help you choose your ideal injection location. They will guide you through the first injection and answer any questions you have about the procedure.
Plan to change the injection site every week – the same location is okay, but choose a different spot.

After Treatment
Most people don’t feel any pain or discomfort during the Mounjaro injections. Mounjaro injections do have some possible side effects, the most common of which is gastrointestinal discomfort. Nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, indigestion, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain are possible when you first start taking Mounjaro, and each time you increase your dose.
A healthy diet of whole foods – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats – will help mitigate the gastrointestinal effects of Mounjaro. You should also avoid greasy, fried, and processed foods.
