What is Therapeutic Massage?

Therapeutic massage is a general term that describes any massage which relieves pain, reduces stress, and targets a specific problem. People assume that therapeutic and deep tissue massage are the same – and that any therapeutic massage will use lots of pressure. But this is not always the case.

Deep tissue massage is ideal to break down scar tissue and circulate blood, but it may not be what you need on a particular day. Stadia Med Spa’s massage therapist will apply specific techniques and pressure to address your needs, which sometimes means applying a lighter touch.

Stadia Med Spa offers several types of therapeutic massage including:

  • Medical Lymphatic Massages
  • Deep Tissue Massages
  • Swedish Massages
  • Targeted Treatment Massages
  • Custom Massages

Your Med Spa experience isn’t complete with one of these relaxing therapeutic massage treatments.

Benefits of Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massages do more than help you relax and de-stress. Some of the most common benefits include:

  • Relief from muscle and joint pain
  • Better circulation
  • Improved sleep
  • More energy
  • Lower heart rate and blood pressure
  • Boosts your immune system
  • Less stress

All massages increase circulation and blood flow. The gentle, gliding hand movements help the body remove stagnant blood and replace it with new oxygen-rich blood. The new blood helps your body heal.

Improved blood flow also calms your mind and turns on the body’s sympathetic nervous system. When you activate the sympathetic “rest and digest” system, you have better sleep and less stress.

Massage supports your immune system via the lymphatic system. Medical lymphatic massages, in particular, stimulate the movement of lymph fluid. Your lymph system is part of your body’s detoxification and disposal systems. It removes harmful bacteria, viruses, and pathogens from the body via the lymph fluid and lymph nodes.

Regular massages are also beneficial for anyone suffering from anxiety and depression. Studies show that massage relieves the symptoms of depression and can be a powerful complementary treatment for people with chronic pain or illnesses.

Types of Massage at Stadia Med Spa

Stadia Med Spa offers several types of therapeutic massage, including medical lymphatic massages, deep tissue, Swedish relaxation, and more! Keep reading to learn more about each type of massage and how they can support you.

Medical Lymphatic Massages

Lymphatic massages support the flow of lymph fluid to support your body’s natural disposal systems. They are designed to help with swelling or edema, and recommended to support healthy breast tissue.

Many of the treatments offered at Stadia Med Spa can cause temporary swelling. Lymphatic massage can help support your body as you heal.

Deep Tissue Massages

Deep tissue massages relieve muscle tension and pain. The therapist will use long, slow strokes with a lot of pressure or targeted pressure in a specific area. These massages are best for those with chronic pain and tension.

If you are active, an athlete, or working on building muscle strength, you can probably benefit from a deep tissue massage. It relieves the tension that builds up in the body throughout your workouts. Tension relief can help build muscle faster and improve your exercise endurance.

Deep tissue may be the perfect complement to the Emsculpt NEO and other fat-burning and muscle-building treatments at Stadia Med Spa.

Swedish Massages

Swedish massages, or relaxation massages, help you de-stress and relax. When most people think of massage, they probably think of the long, soothing strokes associated with Swedish massage. You know if you can benefit from this type of massage. It suits anyone who could use a calm, healing touch and some time away from the stress and pressures of life.

Targeted Treatment Massages

Instead of a full-body treatment that passes over each part of the body, the targeted massage focuses on a specific issue or area of the body. Targeted treatment massages are meant for those with a chronic injury – like a frozen shoulder – or any area that consistently causes pain. You get all the benefits of a regular massage – including rest and relaxation – while addressing an issue that may have been bothering you for a long time!

Custom Massages

A custom massage at Stadia Med Spa is whatever you need that day! You and your massage therapist will discuss your goals for your treatment and decide on the best massage for you that day.

Therapeutic Massage

Frequently Asked Questions

Therapeutic massage at Stadia Med Spa is any massage that supports your goals. Maybe you want some time to relax and de-stress! You may need deep tissue to support tight muscles or sore joints or request a targeted massage to deal with a specific injury.

Therapeutic massage describes any type of massage that supports soft tissue healing, helps you relax, relieves stress, and eases pain. Contact Stadia Med Spa to see which type of therapeutic massage will best suit your goals.

Massage is a gentle and versatile therapy. Most people can benefit from the soothing, relaxing spa atmosphere and the gentle strokes of a Swedish massage. That being said, if you have any life-threatening conditions such as cancer, high blood pressure, or kidney disease, you should consult your primary care doctor before booking a massage.

Therapeutic massage is any massage that relieves tension, pain, and stress. Deep tissue massage is a type of therapeutic massage that uses heavy pressure to relieve muscle tension and pain. But you can have a therapeutic massage without a lot of pressure.

Relaxing Swedish massage and targeted massages are also a form of therapeutic massage. The goal is to help you feel better in your body and calm in your mind.

Massage after Botox is not recommended. The Botox injections may spread or move if you apply too much pressure. You should avoid massage in the treatment area and the surrounding body parts. Avoid any beauty treatments in the area, including massage and facials, for at least two weeks

Massage pairs well with several Stadia Med Spa treatments, but not so much with others. Therapeutic massage can help with sore muscles after Emsculpt. It may be a good compliment to Hydrafacial and other beauty treatments.

Most radiofrequency (RF) treatments will leave the treatment area red and raw. You should schedule your massage before your treatment or wait until the area heals to get a massage. You should never get a massage after Botox or other cosmetic injections to avoid complications.
