The Intense Pulsed Light facial is a light therapy facial that uses a laser to resurface the skin on your face. The IPL facial – or photofacial – reduces the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration from your complexion.

During your consultation, a treatment provider will carefully examine your face, neck, chest, and hands to check for the kind of sun damage, vascular issues, and pigment irregularities that can be helped with IPL. Before Treatment
To prepare for your photofacial, avoid medications that make you more sensitive to light, but always consult your doctor before stopping prescribed medications. Protect your skin from sunlight and stop self-tanning practices two weeks before your treatment.
If you have any active infections or acne flare-ups on the day of your treatment, you should call Stadia MedSpa to reschedule. Avoid NSAIDs – anti-inflammatory medications – as they can increase your risk of bruising. Smokers will have to stop smoking six weeks before their IPL photofacial appointment.
During Treatment
Photofacials are quick and usually take between 30 and 60 minutes. The skin may appear slightly red and swollen during your treatment as the laser resurfaces your skin.
Your Stadia MedSpa provider will give you protective eye shields to wear during your treatment. You might feel a slight warming of the skin and mild discomfort during treatment. Patients have compared it to scratching a sunburn or snapping a rubber band on the skin.
Your experience depends on the intensity of the wavelength used to address your skin concerns. Our lightest treatment is the most gentle. As the laser passes over your skin you may feel a warm tingling sensation. The intensity of the sensation varies. Your comfort and safety are our number one priority.
After Treatment
The skin often feels sunburnt after a photofacial. Ice packs help ease any redness and pain you might feel directly following your procedure.
