What is Botox?

If you are concerned with increasingly visible signs of aging on your face, Botox is a quick solution with little to no downtime. You will still be you, but with fewer lines and more confidence in your appearance.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults.

The injection is made from botulinum toxins, a neurotoxin that is dangerous in large amounts. However, small amounts block the chemical signals from your nerves that make muscles contract. As a result, the muscles in the treatment area relax, wrinkles disappear, and your face looks years younger!

Benefits of Botox

The primary benefit of Botox is a reduction in the appearance of facial wrinkles. However, many people don’t know that Botox has other medical uses.

Because Botox interferes with the chemical signals that make your muscle contract, it can also be used to treat issues like neck spasms, lazy eyes, and migraines. Botox can also reduce pain from TMJ.

Botox is a temporary fix and will not last forever. If you aren’t happy with the results, they will fade over time! Continued injections will be necessary to maintain the effects of your Botox treatment.

Before, During & After

What to Expect

The first step is your free consultation.

Before you book your Botox appointment at Stadia Med Spa, contact our office to schedule a free consultation.

During your consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will evaluate your area of concern and go over your medical history. Even though there is little risk of major complications for most patients, you still need to share your medical history fully and openly with your provider before treatment. Certain allergies, skin or neurological conditions, and medications can make treatment unsuitable for a patient.

Read on to learn what to expect during your Botox appointment.

Before Treatment

If you get any blemishes or active infections in the treatment area, you will need to postpone your appointment until the infection is gone. Arrive on the day of your treatment with a clean face and no makeup.

Avoid NSAIDs – like Aleve and Advil – for a week before and after your treatment. Anti-inflammatory medications increase your chance of bleeding or bruising after your treatment.

During Treatment

Botox is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved treatment that requires zero downtime. The procedure itself takes less than 30 minutes in the office. You can even come in for a quick treatment on your lunch break.

Just before the actual treatment, you may receive a topical anesthetic to numb the area. Many patients don’t need the anesthetic because the needles used to inject botulinum toxins are very thin, and the injections are not very deep. When Botox is administered around the mouth, the use of a local anesthetic is recommended.

Your provider will reconstitute the botulinum toxin into a solution and inject this solution into the muscle at strategic points. Most patients describe a pinching feeling during the injection, and not much pain.

After Treatment

You can go back to your normal activities right after treatment, but your cosmetic surgeon may ask you to take the day off from exercise or other strenuous activity and keep your head upright for the rest of the day.

Do not rub the treatment area for the remainder of the day as it might cause the Botox to migrate to another area of the face. Minor bruising may occur at the injection site, although this will quickly resolve.

Visible results from a Botox Cosmetic treatment appear in five to seven days. However, the full results from a treatment won’t appear until two weeks after your treatment. The results will last between three to four months. After which time, patients will need a repeat treatment to maintain results.
